Google’s “Immersive View” is a new technology that allows users to virtually explore indoor spaces such as bars, cafes, and restaurants in Google Maps. By using this technology, users can pan, tilt, and zoom inside these venues, experiencing a detailed, interactive tour without being physically present. It provides a true-to-life representation, allowing potential visitors to see the layout, decor, and atmosphere of a location before visiting.
As a photographer for this project in Paris, the first city to benefit from this technology, my role involved capturing thousands of photos from every angle inside these venues. These images were essential for Google’s 3D software to accurately rebuild the interiors, ensuring that the virtual experience was as immersive and detailed as possible. This process helps create a seamless, true-to-life representation of the spaces, allowing users to explore them in full 3D on Google Maps.
